Moving-image work for live orchestral performance
Chicago Sinfonietta · Chicago Symphony Center, 2017
Duration: 18:26

Coriolan is a commissioned moving-image work created for the Chicago Sinfonietta’s Día de los Muertos concert at Chicago Symphony Center. Developed from the drawing and camera technique first explored in Oriental, the work follows the live-recorded creation of a portrait of Ludwig van Beethoven in response to his Coriolan Overture. The final moments were edited to transition from the drawing process to the completed portrait.

Presented alongside the live orchestra, the drawing becomes a time-based performance in which image, gesture, music, and duration develop together. The work shifts attention from the finished image toward the physical and temporal process of its creation.
